A proactive approach on disaster risk reduction

The Council of the EU on 28 November called for a more proactive EU approach to disaster risk reduction. In order to better address the increasing frequency and intensity of natural and man-made disasters, member states are supporting a more proactive approach by the EU to disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the framework of its external relations.

The conclusions invite the European Commission, the European External Action Service and Member States to go beyond merely reacting to crises. In this context, the document stresses the importance of scientific data and assessments on climate change and its risks, implications and impacts.
