Prolongation of rescEU transition adopted
The European Parliament and Council this week adopted the prolongation of rescEU transition.
The European Parliament and Council this week adopted the prolongation of rescEU transition.
This decision (1313/2013/EU) foresees a transitional period to ensure a smooth transition towards the full implementation of rescEU, while the Commission and Member States are working to establish a permanent reenforced aerial forest firefighting fleet. Given the likely delays in the manufacturing process, the Commission has proposed to extend the transitional period until 31 December 2027 (under current rules it was set to end 1 January 2025.) During the transitional period, the Commission can provide emergency support to Member States by providing financing to ensure rapid availability of relevant national means that are put at the disposal of a temporary rescEU fleet.
