The Second Planning Conference for the joint exercise "FloodNorthALB" is held in Shkodër.
It was emphasized the importance of coordinated disaster response, stating that the large-scale exercise with participation from Balkan and EU countries will help test and improve disaster response capacities and highlighted the need for collaboration with citizens and institutions to minimize economic and human losses during disasters.
Shkodër's Prefect, Majlinda Angoni, stressed that natural disasters recognize no borders, and coordinated responses among nations and civil protection structures are essential for effective disaster management.
Representatives from regional agencies shared experiences in managing natural disasters, particularly floods. Supported by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, "FloodNorthALB" focuses on flood response scenarios in Shkodër, a region highly vulnerable to recurring floods.
The exercise aims to enhance Albania’s civil protection readiness and response capacities for large-scale disasters requiring coordinated efforts, especially as climate change exacerbates risks.
This is the second planning conference for the final exercise, scheduled for spring 2025 in flood-prone areas like Obot, Oblikë, and Dajç.
