Strengthening cross-border cooperation for intervention response at sea

By project NAMIRS staffPublished on

On 20 November in Trieste, the Maritime Directorate of Trieste, in collaboration with Slovenian and Croatian partners, successfully concluded a groundbreaking transnational anti-pollution exercise in the Northern Adriatic. The activity, a crucial component of the EU-cofunded NAMIRS project, witnessed a strengthened cooperation among Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia in responding to incidents at sea.

The exercise was an important milestone of the project. It convened high ranking officials to showcase importance of regional preparedness to a large scale maritime incident and allowed responders of the three countries to test their communications and ability to coordinate operations. Overall, it was a fruitful collective effort with some lessons identified. Now those lessons need to be taken foreward and learnt, both at political and technical level. I saw the will and motivation to do so.
