EUCPT Team Leader Pekka Tiainen has been recognised by President Erdogan of Türkiye for his distinguished humanitarian service during the earthquake response and relief efforts. Pekka, Team Leader of the first EU Civil Protection Team to reach Türkiye after the earthquake, received the State Medal of the Republic of Türkiye from President Erdogan at a ceremony in Ankara.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Pekka spoke about his experience and the ongoing EU support since the devastating earthquakes in February.
ECHO Director for Emergency Management Hans Das and Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut were present at the same ceremony to receive the State Medal on behalf of the EU.
