RASTOOL-DoS Online Information Day – 6 June 2025

RASTOOL-DoS is pleased to announce its first Online Information Day, taking place on 6 June 2025, aimed at fostering awareness and dialogue around the role of satellite interferometry in disaster risk management (DRM) and introducing the project’s objectives to a broader community of stakeholders.

The main goals of the InfoDay are twofold:

  • To raise awareness among Civil Protection Authorities (CPAs) and related institutions about existing European Union services and programs that support DRM—namely, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS), the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) through the delivery to users of the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS), and the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
  • To present the RASTOOL-DoS project, demonstrate its relevance to DRM, and enhance user engagement, particularly around the integration of satellite data into local and national preparedness efforts.

The event is structured in three sessions:

  1. Introduction to CEMS, EGMS, and ECHO, setting the institutional context and service capabilities.
  2. Use of Satellite Interferometry in DRM, highlighting its value in assessing and monitoring ground motion hazards such as subsidence and slope movements.
  3. Focus on RASTOOL-DoS, presenting the service prototype and its proposed map products. This session will include an open discussion and feedback segment to involve participants directly in the service design process.

Target Audience:

  • National, regional, and local Civil Protection Authorities
  • Geological Surveys and agencies responsible for infrastructure monitoring
  • Institutions engaged in disaster risk reduction
  • Connected or complementary EU-funded projects working in the fields of risk, mapping, Copernicus services, or early warning

We warmly invite all relevant organizations to attend and support us in sharing this event widely, particularly among civil protection networks.

We look forward to your contributions on 6 June!

RASTOOL-DoS Officially Launched

The RASTOOL-DoS project has officially commenced as of 1 March 2025, marking a significant step forward in advancing disaster risk reduction through satellite-based ground motion analysis and mapping services.

On 13 March 2025, the RASTOOL-DoS coordination team proudly represented the project at the kick-off meeting for the 2024 Knowledge for Action in Prevention and Preparedness (UCPM-2024-KAPP-PVPP). The event, hosted by the European Commission's DG ECHO Auditorium in Brussels, gathered newly awarded projects aimed at enhancing the resilience and preparedness of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).

Following this, the official consortium kick-off meeting took place on 10–11 April 2025 at the Centro Nacional IGME-CSIC (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España) in Madrid. During the two-day gathering, project partners engaged in strategic planning, shared implementation roadmaps, and aligned on the vision to transform Copernicus Earth Observation data, particularly from the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS), into actionable tools for territorial management and disaster preparedness
