Beyond its initial pilot areas, VERA has mapped additional European cross-border regions requiring enhanced resilience efforts . By leveraging combined hazard indices (e.g., extreme weather, wildfires, and technological hazards) and vulnerability assessments, the project identified the Italy–Switzerland and Belgium–Netherlands borders as priority regions for future initiatives.
In the Spain–Portugal (PCSP) and Spain–France (PCSF) pilot cases, VERA has advanced the integration of vulnerable elements into its platform. This includes wildfire scenarios in both regions, severe wind events in the Spain–France area, and risks of accidents involving hazardous materials at the Adif-Portbou terminal. Despite challenges with data availability, standardized workflows have been established, enabling more efficient simulations and planning.
The VERA platform continues to evolve with state-of-the-art numerical models and datasets from Copernicus, Galileo, and other European services. These enable accurate forecasts of wind fields, floods, wildfire spread and smoke dispersion, and technological accidents, thereby enhancing situational awareness and fostering cross-border cooperation.
Accessible via a secure web interface, the VERA platform requires no installation and is available on both desktop and mobile devices. With role-based access and over 45 open datasets covering hazards, population, and infrastructure, it supports robust vulnerability assessments and decision-making.
