From 2–6 September 2025, the VERA Project was represented at the XXV Encontro da Rede de Estudos Ambientais de Países de Língua Portuguesa (REALP), held in Évora, Portugal.

Diogo Lopes, from the Universidade de Aveiro, presented the work “Análise de riscos naturais e tecnológicos em regiões transfronteiriças Europeias: uma abordagem integrada de perigos e vulnerabilidades” [Analysis of natural and technological risks in European cross-border regions: an integrated approach to hazards and vulnerabilities]. His contribution reinforced the importance of integrated policies for cross-border risk management, addressing both environmental and technological hazards, while highlighting the need to account for the vulnerability of local populations.

This intervention showcased how VERA is building on the foundations of the VESPRA project to advance multi-risk assessments and to strengthen cross-border preparedness and response capacities in Europe, in line with the objectives of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism Knowledge Network
