The IMAROS 2 project is scheduled to be carried out in 2024-2025 and is based on the findings from the first IMAROS project.
The project focuses on two main challenges:
- Improve the understanding of how low-sulfur oils (LSFOs) behave after being spilled into water, thereby improving emergency response readiness.
- Enhance the mechanical collection of low-sulfur oils and beach cleaning.
Through Europe-wide data collection and trials in Norway and Finland, we're testing innovative recovery methods and refining cleanup techniques, all tailored to LSFO spills.
Five work packages
The IMAROS 2 project consists of five work packages; project management, trends and samples, characterisation and impacts, mechanical recovery and shoreline response. In the initial fase, there will also be formed an expert group to facilitate discussion beyond the project consortium. On April 18th and 19th, a producers involvement conference is held in Malmø, Sweden. Equipment manufacturers are invited to participate in recovery trails under controlled conditions in test facilities in Norway and Finland, to identify promising approaches to recover oils with adverse properties.
The project is a collaboration between Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Malta, the Netherlands, France, and Finland.
