Wildfire Peer Review Assessment Framework launched for ERCC anniversary
The Wildfire Peer Review Assessment Framework was developed to support member states in wildfire prevention and preparedness.
As part of the UCPM Peer Review programme, the Wildfire Peer Review Assessment Framework was developed to support member states in wildfire prevention and preparedness. This framework was officially launched today, 30 May, as part of the ERCC's 10th anniversary celebration.
Wildfires are one of the most prominent disaster risks in Europe. In 2022 the UCPM was activated 11 times for wildfires alone and climate change is likely to increase the frequency and intensity with which they appear.
With the new Wildfire Peer Review Assessment Framework, peer reviews of wildfire risk management systems may be conducted to help countries assess their capacity to prevent wildfires as well as their preparedness levels should they have to cope with one. The framework addresses seven thematic areas that are to be reviewed during the process. These areas are governance of wildfire risk management, wildfire risk assessment, wildfire risk management planning, wildfire prevention, wildfire preparedness, response, and recovery and lessons learned.
UCPM Member or Participating States are invited to volunteer for a peer review or to use the framework as a tool for self-review.
