The overall objective of the peer review, coordinated by the European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), was aimed at enhancing Brandenburg’s wildfire governance and disaster risk management.
The peer team consisted of four senior experts from Portugal, Spain, and Italy, who were supported by DG ECHO and the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change (CMCC).
After more than six months of intensive work in close collaboration with the Brandenburg authorities, the report (EN / DE) is now released.
Today 14 July, during a workshop in Potsdam, the Director General of DG ECHO, Mr. Maciej Popowski, handed over the report to the authorities, represented by Dr. Sascha Dietel from the Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs of the State of Brandenburg (MIK).
Mr. Popowski congratulated the Brandenburg side for volunteering to undergo a peer review and for the entire team effort of all authorities involved from the Land level and the federal level (BBK). He also expressed trust that the active contribution of Land Brandenburg to the UCPM will continue.
Dr. Dietel appreciated the very good work of the peers involved, the very collaborative approach to the entire process and expressed an overall satisfaction with having undergone a peer review. Dr. Dietel went on to mention the report will be discussed at an advisory board meeting with relevant stakeholders in October, with the view to identify the future actions.
