World Bank to assist Ireland in Strengthening Emergency Planning
Ireland's national approach to preparing for major emergencies is being reviewed with support from the World Bank.
The Department of Defence announced on 21 August that a team of international experts will work with the Office of Emergency Planning (OEP) to help Ireland better manage disaster risks.
The OEP, a joint civil-military office, coordinates emergency planning across government and ensures that resources are used effectively during crises. As part of the project, World Bank specialists will visit Dublin from 15 to 19 September to meet with government departments, emergency services, and other key stakeholders.
The review, financed by the European Union trough its Technical Assistance Financing Facility, will compare Ireland's current framework with international best practice. It will highlight the system's strengths, identify policy and operational challenges, and recommend improvements to ensure the country is well prepared for future emergencies. An interim report is expected in the autumn, with final findings to be presented by the end of the year.
