World | EU Civil Protection Mechanism activations in 2023
ECHO Daily Map of 12 January 2024, prepared by DG ECHO A3 - Situational Awareness Sector, provides an overview of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) activations in the years 2023.
As shown on the map, in 2023, the number of activations of the mechanism has been 66 (+ 50, see below) which showcases the relevance of the mechanism.
The 66 activations were due to a wide variety of causes, including epidemic/pandemic, wildfires, floods, earthquakes, or the need for consular support, among a total of 14 civil protection emergency categories.
Special attention can be paid to those +50 activations, which refer to Ukraine’s requests for assistance to the ERCC, within the UCPM, active since February 2022 in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
