The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has as its general mission:

• The study, planning, organization and coordination of action to prevent and respond to natural, technological and other disasters or emergencies, as well as informing the public about these issues.
• The preparation, mobilization and coordination of action of the country's civil protection capabilities and means to deal with possible disasters of all kinds within the framework of the existing relevant planning per risk category.
• The utilization of the available scientific data and information for the mobilization of the country's civil protection capabilities and means, in view of the threatened risk of disasters.
• The coordination of the work and actions of disaster response during the occurrence of the phenomena, as well as the work of repairing the damage caused.
