Description
What does the Limburg-Noord Safety Region do?
The Limburg-Noord Safety Region aims to better protect residents and visitors of North and Central Limburg against (health) risks, disasters and crises.
We are here for your safety. We protect this safety by identifying risks and preparing for possible disasters and crises on the basis of this. However, we do not do this alone. By working together with our partners, we can act as effectively as possible during and after a disaster or crisis. This is how we keep our region safe.
The safety region as an organisation
Safety Region Limburg-Noord (VRLN) is one of the 25 safety regions of our country. Within the Limburg-Noord Safety Region, the fire brigade, GGD and crisis management work together. The partnership is governed by the participating municipalities: Beesel, Bergen, Echt-Susteren, Gennep, Horst aan de Maas, Leudal, Maasgouw, Mook and Middelaar, Nederweert, Peel en Maas, Roerdalen, Roermond, Venlo, Venray and Weert. The safety region is also a partnership between the police, municipalities, the Ministry of Defence, water boards, Rijkswaterstaat, Ambulancezorg Limburg-Noord and Prorail. The aim of the cooperation is to make joint preparations and to coordinate the management of a disaster or crisis.

Our tasks: prevention, combat and recovery
The core task of VRLN is to protect everyone who lives, works or stays in our region against (health) risks, disasters and crises. Three words are important here: prevent, combat and repair.
In order to prevent disasters and crises as much as possible, we identify safety risks and take preventive measures. In addition, we practice regularly so that we can combat any disaster or crisis as effectively as possible. Finally, after a crisis, we take measures to restore society to normal as soon as possible.

Always prepared by periodic exercises
Fortunately, major disasters and crises are rare. In order to gain experience in combating it, the safety region regularly organises exercises.
The nature of these exercises is always different. One time we practice a terrorist attack while another time we simulate a large fire that has a lot of effect on the environment. Depending on the type of incident we practice, we involve our partners. After an exercise, a joint evaluation always follows. For example, we are constantly working on improving disaster response.
Our partners in crisis
Despite all the precautions, something can always go wrong. In preventing and combating a disaster or crisis, in addition to the municipalities and (international) aid services, many other parties are also involved.
As a safety region, we work intensively with institutions, companies and organisations that are active within our region. You can think of the Province of Limburg, Water Board Limburg, Rijkswaterstaat, WML, Public Prosecution Service, Red Cross, hospitals and utilities.
However, our partners are also outside our national borders: if necessary, the foreign emergency services immediately come to the rescue. By working together with partners within and outside our region, we have the right expertise in-house for every type of disaster or crisis and we know better what to expect.
