Description

NWO-I, the Institutes Organisation of NWO, is called in full the Foundation for Dutch Scientific Research Institutes and is an independent foundation belonging to NWO. NWO-I manages nine national research institutes: AMOLF, ARCNL, ASTRON, CWI, DIFFER, Nikhef, NIOZ, NSCR and SRON.

NWO-I is the employer for the broad 1,900 employees of the nine institutes, the NWO-I office and the University Working Groups Management Unit (BUW). The NWO institutes fulfil national and international roles. NWO institutes are national centres of expertise; nursery for scientific innovation; breeding ground for talent; connector in national and international research; or developer, administrator and enabler of large infrastructure or large datasets.

The research at the NWO institutes is driven by curiosity and societal challenges. Scientific and societal questions of national strategic importance require research with long-term commitment and the pooling of multidisciplinary expertise and facilities. By carrying out this research in a groundbreaking, honest and excellent manner, making it accessible and disseminating it, NWO institutes realise knowledge and solutions with scientific and societal impact.
