GOBEYOND is an innovation action designed to strengthen community resilience and enhance response capacity to geo, weather and climate-related risks. By developing advanced Multi-Risk Impact-based Early Warning Systems (MR-IEWS), the project shifts the focus from merely detecting hazards to proactively anticipating their impacts on vulnerable populations and critical infrastructure.
Civil protection authorities and first responders require advanced technology support for situational awareness and rapid deployment. The EU-funded GOBEYOND project will develop multi-risk impact-based early warning systems (MR-IEWSs) for geohazards and weather events. It will support civil protection authorities and first responders by leveraging the legacy of previous early warning systems and impact-forecasting algorithms. It will identify innovative algorithms for geohazards and merge them with existing weather/climate impact-based algorithms to create an integrated early warning system (IEWSs).
GOBEYOND will combine these algorithms with detailed regional and local vulnerability, exposure and risk information to gauge the severity of the hazards in terms of expected socio-economic impacts and eventually develop real-time decision support systems (DSSs).
