Description

The IPP project contributes to the Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network by sharing knowledge, expertise and good practices relating to mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) for those helping with crises such as pandemics and epidemics.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to provide support for different groups of helpers that each face unique challenges and extreme pressure. While peer support is in place, this is often not the case for hospital staff or ad hoc crisis teams. The quickly emerging needs at the start of the pandemic combined with new actors required more knowledge, data collection and exchange of best practices. In order to identify the needs in MHPSS as well as solutions, research is being carried out in Armenia and Georgia amongst helpers in the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting report informed the development of an online media library for training and knowledge exchange. Social media campaigns (via Instagram, Facebook and youtube) raising awareness around the importance of psychological support for helpers have been developed and promoted.
