Pre-FACED

Description

Pre-FACED is a European Union-funded project under the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) that aims to strengthen preparedness and operational readiness for wildfires and floods, while enhancing cooperation and interoperability among Civil Protection authorities across Europe.

The project will develop an integrated geospatial Decision Support System (DSS) and Common Operational Picture (COP) that combines Earth Observation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), real-time monitoring data and advanced hazard prediction models into a single operational platform. By integrating information from satellite observations, field sensors, numerical models and operational data sources, the platform will provide Civil Protection authorities with enhanced situational awareness and evidence-based decision support before and during emergencies.

The Pre-FACED platform will be demonstrated and validated through pilot activities in Cyprus, Greece and Portugal, with the support and expertise of the French Civil Protection Directorate, ensuring that the developed solutions address real operational needs and can be readily adopted by emergency management organisations.

The platform will facilitate information sharing, improve cross-border cooperation and support more coordinated preparedness and response actions. By strengthening the use of geospatial technologies and Artificial Intelligence in disaster management, Pre-FACED contributes to improving the quality, interoperability and effectiveness of preparedness capacities under the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, ultimately supporting a more resilient Europe.
