Description

Climate change is increasing the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, increasing the risk of associated ‘disasters’ for vulnerable societies, ecosystems, and infrastructure. These risks include socio-economic crises and violent conflicts, and building resilience to them is imperative. The EU-funded SYNERGIES project intends to revise and improve the outcomes of six earlier projects focused on disaster risk management (DRM), increasing their maturity and integrating them with best practices and practitioner experiences. The project will focus on key areas of DRM, including involvement of all stakeholders, education and training, communication with citizens, and the management of spontaneous volunteers, while striving to ensure sustainability. The outcomes will be demonstrated and evaluated through three real ‘preparedness cases’.
