Complementary Efforts of PROMPT Towards the SDGs, Agenda 2030

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interconnected global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. They are designed as a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all" by 2030. The SDGs address a broad range of social, economic, and environmental challenges. The PROMPT project is heavily aligned with SDG 14 (life below water), which advocates conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. This involves reducing marine pollution, protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, and regulating fishing.

PROMPT endeavors to preserve biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea by combating marine pollution of oil and HNS spills which are specifically caused by ships transportation activities along the mediterranean sea, hence PROMPT’s activities are considered significant efforts to complement SDG 14 in preserving life below water. The expected outcomes of PROMPT are to optimise the prevention and preparedness for oil, hazardous and noxious substances (HNS) marine pollution, and improvement of the effectiveness of surveillance, detection, drift modeling, and recovery operations, including floating objects. The realization of the PROMPT optimal goal will contribute significantly to the realization of SDG 14, thus, safeguard our environment and protect our biodiversity.
