European Parliament Establishes Intergroup on Civil Protection & Resilience

The European Parliament has announced the creation of the “Resilience, Disaster Management and Civil Protection” intergroup, according to the International Fire and Safety Journal (IFSJ). This initiative, led by Members of the European Parliament Grégory Allione, Pascal Arimont, Christophe Clergeau, and Matej Tonin, focuses on enhancing civil protection and resilience throughout the EU.

Portugal is better prepared, with a greater focus on fire prevention

The UN Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction, Kamal Kishore, spoke to TSF during the Civil Protection Forum in Brussels. He says that he believes that the 2017 fires in Portugal resulted in lessons learned across Europe. ‘Portugal is better prepared, with a greater focus on fire prevention”.
