Since its inception in 2010, EU MODEX has brought together rescue teams, medical staff, civil protection experts and exercise designers from across Europe in large-scale civil protection and emergency preparedness simulation exercises.
At the heart of EU MODEX are the people who design, direct and participate in these simulations. Their work turns carefully prepared scenarios into immersive operational environments, where cooperation, coordination, communication and decision-making are tested under pressure. This collection of personal testimonies explores how authenticity is created, how teams respond under stress, and what is learnt when theory meets practice in simulated disaster zones.
These stories also reflect the compassion, strength and solidarity at the core of Europe’s emergency response community, where working towards a common purpose can create strong human bonds, which often endure beyond the exercise.
