On 2 April 2026, the SUNSHINE project consortium successfully delivered a dedicated Communication Webinar, bringing together stakeholders from seven European countries to present the project’s progress, opportunities, and upcoming activities.
The webinar opened with an overview of the SUNSHINE project’s background, outlining its strategic objectives and its role in helping the civil protection community understand how EU Space data and services can be used effectively, while supporting their operational integration into national systems and procedures. A key focus of the session was the wide range of capacity building activities provided by the project. SUNSHINE is a multifaceted project, combining theoretical learning with practical application through training seminars, webinars, bilateral meetings, and simulation exercises. This integrated approach ensures that participants progressively develop both technical competencies and operational readiness.
The webinar provided a detailed overview of the Training Seminars, highlighting their goals, structure, benefits, and next dates. In this regard, the project is currently organising two additional seminars:
- Timișoara, Romania: 5–8 May 2026
- Zagreb, Croatia: 23–26 June 2026

The session also explored the various types of webinars organised throughout the project lifecycle. These online events complement the in-person training by delivering thematic deep dives. Participants were informed about upcoming webinar sessions, including the next Technical Webinar on 4 June, focusing on Copernicus Emergency Management Serviceopens in new tab, encouraging continued engagement with the project’s learning ecosystem.
Another key component discussed was the opportunity of bilateral meetings between the SUNSHINE team and representatives from individual EU Member States. These tailored sessions address specific national needs and challenges, providing targeted support. The webinar also highlighted the Simulation Exercises (SIMEX), which represent the culmination of the project’s capacity building efforts. These exercises provide participants with the chance to apply the knowledge and skills gained during seminars and webinars in realistic, high-pressure scenarios, strengthening their ability to leverage EU Space services effectively in crisis situations. Participation in a SUNSHINE SIMEX is reserved for professionals who have attended one of the Training Seminars, with the next exercise scheduled for 6-7 October 2026.
