The Final Planning Conference of the emblematic UCPM Cyprus Earthquake Full-Scale Exercise entitled ΔΗΜΩΝΑΧ (DEMONAX), took place in Larnaka, at the premises of the Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), on the 25th of February 2026.
The DEMONAX Final Planning Conference provided the platform for the DEMONAX Consortium to optimize the exercise planning in terms of all its major components, including the finalisation of the Main Events List / Main Injects List, the organisation of all Host Nation Support considerations, as well as other planning topics including EXCON considerations, the Observers and VIPs Program, the hosting of the EUCPT, and the implementation of the exercise evaluation activities.
The specific objectives of the Conference were the following:
As with the previous DEMONAX Planning Conferences, the DEMONAX Main Planning Conference objectives were fulfilled through the implementation of targeted presentations on each individual topic considered, followed by a structured exchange of views among all project participants based on their expertise and past experience. This process led to the final decisions regarding all technical aspects of the DEMONAX exercise implementation.
The DEMONAX Final Planning Conference was organised by Cyprus Civil Defence (DEMONAX Coordinating Organisation), and was hosted and coordinated by the DEMONAX Project Manager Mr Panayiotis Liassides, Assistant Director of Cyprus Civil Defence, and by Mr Andreas Papachristoforou, Officer of Cyprus Civil Defence.
The Conference was attended by Mr Per Oyvind Semb, the DG-ECHO Project Officer of the DEMONAX Cyprus Earthquake Full-Scale Exercise.
After the events which took place in Cyprus during March 2026, the DEMONAX Full-Scale Exercise did NOT take place from the 26th until the 30th of April 2026 as originally foreseen.
The new dates for the implementation of the DEMONAX Full-Scale Exercise will be announced in due time.
