The VERA Project is moving into its final phase, marking a significant step in strengthening disaster risk management across European border regions. Building on the foundations of the VESPRA project, VERA has developed a digital platform designed to support emergency services, municipalities, and land developers in anticipating, preparing for, and responding to both natural and technological hazards.
As the project approaches completion, the consortium is now preparing a series of validation exercises to test the platform in real-world scenarios. These exercises will bring together diverse stakeholders, ensuring the tools respond effectively to the needs of practitioners on the ground.
The first cross-border test exercise is scheduled to take place in late November/early December 2025, focusing on the Spain–France region. This pilot will evaluate how the VERA platform supports integrated, multi-risk assessments, facilitates coordination between authorities, and strengthens the resilience of local communities.
By engaging civil protection actors, local administrations, and land-use planners, VERA is not only advancing technological solutions but also promoting a culture of collaboration and preparedness across borders. These efforts directly contribute to the objectives of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism Knowledge Network, ensuring that lessons learned are shared widely and can inform future practices at the European level.
Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming exercises and the final results of the project, which aim to provide practical, scalable solutions for disaster risk reduction across Europe.
