Carlos Mendes is the Deputy Director for Prevention and Risk Management in the Portuguese National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection. Currently, he is also the Portuguese Sendai Focal Point and national representative in the EC Disaster Prevention and Risk Management Expert Group and in the EC Early Warning Systems Expert Group. His activities are mainly focussed on prevention and preparedness, at a strategic level, including the implementation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction
