Voices of Resilience – An interview with SEE ME and SEE ME 2 projects

Published on

SEE ME (‘Safe and Equal in EMErgencies) is a Croatian project that develops equal access of persons with disabilities to opportunities in emergencies, partnering with the civil protection authorities of Slovenia and Montenegro.

The project conducted an awareness-raising campaign on equal rights in emergencies, and analysed gaps and needs in the protection and rescue of persons with disabilities, as well as developing guidelines for the protection and rescue of persons with disabilities in emergencies. SEE ME ended in 2023 and is currently being continued under SEE ME 2

‘’The goal was to ensure that all phases of emergency management consider the needs of people with disabilities and to support vulnerable groups to increase their resilience to disaster risks”

These activities are continuing with the ongoing SEE ME 2 by conducting trainings for first responders and further empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Engagement with local associations was essential as they were very interested and participated in all activities, including training sessions, production of brochures, and exercise. Other organisations were also strongly engaged, such as first responders, who recognized the importance of the education about the types of disabilities and the challenges faced by individual person with disability.

“Mainstreaming disability into emergency responses and preparedness, by making disability issues and persons with disabilities visible in national and international actions plans and policies, is essential to ensure equality and human rights for all”

The Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network can be used for dissemination purposes of all public deliverables of the project. The platform can also be used to analyse results of other EU-funded projects and align findings. The team will share videos of awareness-raising campaigns and add these to the website in English on the project page.
