Description
The Disaster Management Artificial Intelligence Knowledge Network (ARTION) focused on developing and promoting AI technologies for disaster management, with the vision to become a world-class network for knowledge sharing in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for disaster management, that will guide the development and use of AI tools by first responders across Europe. The project collected data for training purposes, provided online modules for knowledge-sharing and established new partnerships between relevant actors. In achieving its goals, the project aimed to bridge the gap between AI scientists and disaster-management experts and increase the capacity of first responders. ARTION equipped civil protection experts with the data, tools and expertise to better manage disasters and challenges, while stimulating further research into how AI can be applied in specific disaster-management scenarios.
The project has been a strategic partnership between the KIOS Center of Excellence, the University of Lille in France, public training and advising institution (CIK - Crisis Information Centre) in Poland, as well as civil protection agencies including the Cyprus Civil Defence, with experience in organising UCPM training courses, and the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna - Civil protection General Directorate (Italy), with expertise in forecasting disaster risks.
