Description
The project will contribute to building new and developing further existing competencies, skills and knowledge in wildfires risk management concept by developing novel methodologies and tools for an integrated risk governance, assessment and planning approach to address emerging civil protection challenges due to extreme wildfires and megafires in the Mediterranean area under changing climate conditions.
Along four pilot sites in Spain, Italy and Greece, three wildfire civil protection challenges will be approached:
i) wildfires impacting to wildland-urban interface in peri-urban areas;
ii) wildfires impacting to tourist villages and resorts and
iii) wildfires impacting to protected areas and recreational sites.
With the participation of local stakeholders, six pre-defined end-users targeted risk assessment and planning tools and three risk governance dimensions (policy coherence, participatory approaches and, institutional coordination and funding) will be developed. Learning exchange and trainings will be conducted across pilots/civil protection challenges, enhancing risk awareness towards novel risk scenarios.
The project results will be disseminated at local, national and EU level, expanding the project impact to other changing wildfire risk landscapes which may have similar challenging civil protection needs.
